Biodiversity / Fauna / Limnology / Surinam / Mina Merian|
Biodiversity and aquatic biota monitoring at Merian mine in Suriname. Agreement number CW116282. Newmont Suriname, LLC.
The objective is to monitor terrestrial fauna and aquatic life from 2024 to 2026, during the dry and rainy seasons, to assess the current species richness and composition within the mining area, in order to measure the actual impacts versus the impacts predicted in the ESIA of the Merian Gold Project. Terrestrial ecosystems include insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Aquatic ecosystems include algae, macrophytes, macroinvertebrates and fish.

Heavy metals in river food webs of Panamá.

Heavy metals/ Trophic web / Limnology / Panama / Minera Panamá S.A.
Bioassay of trophic web. Service Order # 50024163-06. Minera Panama S.A.
The first study was conducted in Panama to determine whether there is evidence of bioaccumulation and bioconcentration processes of heavy metals in the aquatic biota in the watercourses located in the area of influence of Minera Panamá, based on the measurement of these in the trophic web. The concentration of heavy metals in water, sediments, periphyton, benthic macroinvertebrates and fish was measured. The bioaccumulation and bioconcentration factors of heavy metals through the different levels of the trophic web were found in watercourses with mining intervention and reference systems, based on previously defined models.
Big Data implementation.

Implementation of the Big Data expert system. Quellaveco Project. AngloAmerican Quellaveco S.A. Contrato 2.MAY.2176.
A web page with the Big Data expert system was implemented for the Quellaveco project, which included a database and real-time predictive algorithms for the variables of environmental importance defined by the mine operation.

Annual monitoring of rivers, streams and reservoirs of the Dominican Republic.

Ecohydrology / Limnology / Dominican Republic / Barrick
PVDC aquatic habitat monitoring - Years 2016 (187368/O), 2017 (210141/O) and 2018 (228673/O). Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Corporation - Barrick Operations..
Since 2016, the characterization of lotic and lentic aquatic ecosystems in the area of influence of Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Corporation has been carried out. It has included the analysis of the physicochemical characteristics of water and sediments and their comparison with the quality standards of the Dominican Republic, United States and Canada. Characterization of periphyton, benthic macroinvertebrates, fish, and heavy metal content in fish has been carried out. The study of the reservoirs has included the definition of mixing behavior through the execution of vertical profiles over 24 hours.
Limnological studies in island reservoirs.

Limnology / Thermal stratification / Dominican Republic
Biannual monitoring of Hatillo and Rincon reservoirs - years 2017 (199760/O, 205199/O), 2018 (217046/O). Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Corporation - Barrick Operations..
Development of vertical nichemeral profiles of temperature, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, pH and chlorophyll a, as well as the analysis of physicochemical characteristics. The evaluation of biological elements has included phytoplankton and zooplankton communities, cyanotoxin content, primary productivity estimation and trophic state classification. The effect of hurricanes on the thermal stability of reservoir water bodies has been studied. For the first time, a study of the carrying capacity for fish farming in cages in the Hatillo reservoir was carried out for freshwater ecosystems in the Dominican Republic.
Aquatic habitat quality assessment in the area of influence of the PVDC mine.

Limnology / Thermal stratification / Dominican Republic
Aquatic habitat quality assessment in the area of influence of Pueblo Viejo - Pueblo Viejo Dominican Corporation Operations - Barrick. Order 170573/O
An evaluation was made of all the existing information on the quality of the aquatic habitat in the area of influence of the Pueblo Viejo gold mine in the Dominican Republic, operated by Barrick, from the construction phase to the current operational phase. Databases were generated for the analysis of the physical, chemical and hydrobiological information (fish, plankton, periphyton and benthos) of the reservoirs and watercourses located in the project's area of influence. Based on the information analyzed, it was possible to determine how Pueblo Viejo's current activities are producing any changes or effects on the aquatic habitat within the sub-basins downstream of the operation.
Characterization of organic soil piles at the PVDC mine.
.

Soil piles / Pueblo Viejo / Dominicana Republic / Barrick
PVDC organic soil pile characterization and soil balance as of 2016 - Pueblo Viejo Dominican Corporation Operations - Barrick. Order 181817/O.
A total of 105 apiques of organic soils were excavated in 35 piles, in order to evaluate the physical and chemical characteristics of the material in order to assess its potential for reuse in the implementation of the mine's habitat restoration and rehabilitation programs. A sampling protocol and a mobile field laboratory for soil analysis were designed to classify and properly dispose of the soils removed during mining in the temporary storage piles. Training courses were held on the characterization and classification of soils for agronomic use.
